Senior Dog and Cat Care

Did you know that pets are considered “seniors” by age seven? As your pet ages, his or her medical needs change. Wellness examinations, blood work, and dietary counseling all are important steps you can take toward keeping your senior pet healthy and happy. My Best Friend’s senior wellness exams are specially designed for your older pet's good health.

My Best Friend recommends twice-annual exams, so that together we can take the best care of your senior companion. Again, early detection through wellness exams can prevent more serious problems. Blood tests can rule out a number of ailments or confirm ailments that need to be treated.

Symptoms of common geriatric disease are:

• Increased/decreased appetite
• Increased/decreased thirst or urination
• Weight loss
• Coughing or exercise intolerance
• Sneezing, foul breath, dropping food
• Lack of energy
• Difficulty with stairs, getting up or down from rest
• Loss of hearing or vision
• Other behavioral changes
