Nutritional and Behavioral Counseling

Pet Nutritional Counseling

Nutrition is one of the most important factors in maintaining your pet’s good health. Proper nutrients are necessary for every organ system in the body to function properly. Maintaining your pet’s ideal body weight can improve his or her life expectancy.  Many gastrointestinal ailments can be linked to inappropriate diets, and many skin problems have a nutritional component to them.

When we examine your pet, we will evaluate their nutritional status and make specific recommendations regarding proper nutrition for your pet. For some medical conditions we recommend feeding one of a variety of prescription diets tailored for pets. For pets that are currently healthy we offer advice on selecting a high quality, non-prescription food from the stores where you shop.

If your pet is overweight, there are many things you can do to help him get back into shape. Speaking with us is the first place to start. For some pets, feeding a diet formulated for weight loss and carefully selecting lower calorie treats can help. Increasing exercise as appropriate for your pet may be helpful. Most often, simply learning the correct volume of food to offer works wonders.

Pet Behavioral Counseling

Dogs and cats can suffer from a multitude of ailments ranging from severe phobias to aggressions. The first step in controlling these issues is to discuss them with your veterinarian to rule out any possible medical component. We strive to help our clients learn the real reasons for their pet's behavior and then find realistic options for a treatment plan.

Our goal is to bring you and your best friend relief through behavior modification, environmental changes and medications, if needed.
